Fits and Starts

Fits and Starts

We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.

I had sort of abandoned this blog. Still, after all these months, the notes trickle in…we miss you, where did you go, when is it coming back.

There are things we have to do for ourselves, not for others.

After my back injury, I was really frustrated. I healed a little, ran a little, hurt some more. I think I did that for months. I eventually thought I am not going to run again – that was a fun experiment, but my body has called it quits. I rode a bike, went back to yoga, walked, stared at my running shoes.

Then quietly, and without taking about it, I started over. I really really started over. Amazing how in my 40s my body doesn’t remember things as well as it did when I was younger. Someone recently told me that in my 40s, I am officially middle-aged. I believe it. At least, physically, I know it’s true. So I had to start again – little runs, short jogs, longer recoveries. It took months. It tested my patience.

I have written about this before, but I am not a patient person. Sometimes it feels like my whole life is hurry up and wait a lesson designed to teach me this. I am usually a fast learner…but not with this one.

I guess with anything, we can fall off course and have to redirect. For me, I got hurt. Then there was business and relationship and kids and – well – life. Life can simply get in the way if we allow that to happen. We fall off course and we never get back on because the distractions keep us from redirecting. Maybe sometimes we learn that we simply can’t go back the way we came and we have to take a different direction to get back to where we want to be.

There is always more than one way, right?

So here I am again. Back on the road. Back in running shoes.

Here we go.

Jacqueline
